We are excited to share an update on our toy project in Ghana.
Our project is for the 250 million children globally who are at risk of not achieving their development potential. Alongside our partner AfriKids, we are providing adapted toys to Ghanaian kindergartens.
The toys are enhanced with health information for caregivers, including the danger signs of various childhood illnesses, good nutrition and handwashing practices. These messages are provided through locally-designed, context-appropriate iconography, which are applied to the toys.
Whilst the child engages in developmentally stimulating play with this toy, the caregiver learns from the messages on the toys.
Bringing together play for children and learning for caregivers is why we call this project Play++. If you would like more detail on the background of Play++, you can read more about this project here.
After months of careful planning and research, the final versions of the toys have been manufactured and distributed to 5 kindergartens in Bolgatanga District. We are all delighted to finally see the toys in the little hands they were destined for.
We hope you enjoy these photo of mums and babies enjoying the adapted toys.
Over the next few months, we will keep monitoring and evaluating the project, as well as listening to feedback from both the children and the caregivers. Look out for our future updates!
