People unable to get seats to the sold-out Cracking Comedy in aid of Women and Children First show, headlined by the whimsical James Acaster, will be able to donate £10 to watch a livestream of the event on Monday 23 May from the Leicester Square Theatre, through stand-up comedy streaming service NextUp.
Everyone who buys a £10 ticket to the show will help raise money for Women and Children First, an organisation that helps women, children, mothers and their babies to survive and thrive in some of the world’s poorest, most rural communities.
What’s more, NextUp will donate the first payment of any new subscription (minus processing fees) to Women and Children First, including a further £5 gift for any new annual or monthly subscriber.
The stunning bill includes James Acaster, one of the UK’s most popular, loved comedians and is considered ‘one of comedy’s most original voices’ (Evening Standard). His successes including a record breaking 5 consecutive nominations for ‘Best Comedy Show’ at the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. His shows have been seen on Netflix and he is also a popular co-host of podcast Off Menu with Ed Gamble.
Also taking part in the evening is Maisie Adam, whose anecdotal material and witty charm have won her praise and seen her on programmes including Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You, and QI.
Sindhu Vee will be bringing her award-winning waspish charm, which has seen her on TV programmes including Live At The Apollo and House of Games. Mike Wozniak, known most recently for his brilliance on Channel 4’s Taskmaster, will be bringing his brisk act to proceedings.
Also joining them are renowned comedians Olga Koch, who was nominated for Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival 2020, and Nathan Caton, whose laidback style has seen him appear on Russell Howard’s Good News.
Elf Lyons is known for her distinctive, unique voice, mixing stand-up and sass, as seen on ITV2’s The Stand-Up Sketch Show. Rising Welsh star Vix Leyton will MC, having been discovered by Mark Watson on Twitter and making a name for herself with her biting wit.
Vix Leyton says, “I’m absolutely delighted to be MCing this line up of legends in May. Coming together to laugh is something universal, and this should be true of being able to access medical care for women and children, wherever they are in the world.
“Unfortunately there is still a lot to do and that is why it’s such a privilege to work with ‘Women and Children First’, who are tirelessly pushing towards this goal. Thanks to the livestream, you can watch and support from home, and we’ll be doing our best to make sure you feel like you’re in the room.”
Dr Mikey Rosato, Chief Executive of Women and Children First, said, “Thanks to all of the amazing comedians for coming together to help women and children worldwide. Get yourself a streaming ticket and give women in countries including Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda vital life-changing, life-saving support.”
Tom Brandt, Head of Content at NextUp says: 'Women and Children First is a brilliant and important charity that we're extremely pleased to be able to support through the live streaming of the show. Their work across the globe speaks for itself, it's a fantastic cause, and we're proud to contribute to what is shaping up to be a superb night of comedy.'
