Women and Children First is joining thousands of other small international development charities across the UK in their call for Government support. We are asking supporters to write to their MP and lobby for this much-needed help.
Surveys from the Small International Development Charities Network show that 89% of these charities are on the frontline responding to COVID-19. The crisis has had a disproportionate effect on the sector, which is seeing a 27% increase in demand and a 33% loss in income.
Government funding can help support small international charities in their coronavirus response, enabling us and other organisations to support the people that need us most - women and children in the world’s poorest communities.
A collapse of the small international development sector would mean a collapse in their impact overseas, in the UK and in countries including Ethiopia and Uganda.
The Small But Mighty campaign is calling on the UK Government to commit to a £50 million package of support over two years (this year and next), funded using the existing Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) budget. It will ensure the survival of many of these charities - and help more women and children.
Can you take a few minutes to write to your MP? You can adapt the below template and use the Small But Mighty website to find and contact your local MP.
