“There is Power Among Communities”: Perspectives from a Group Supervisor
Florida Malamba, a former community health group supervisor and programme manager in Malawi, currently uses her experience to provide guidance, advice and training on running groups. She will support Women and Children First with further training across Africa.
She is sharing some of her stories and experiences of working in community health groups.

Women and Children First has been working in Tanzania training local health officials to organise and run community health groups. The groups, starting this summer, will support pregnant women to address critical maternal health problems such as malnutrition and anaemia.

Immaculate Apio shares her story from Uganda about what she learnt about pregnancy and women’s health from the group meetings that she attended. These groups use a technique called PLA - Participatory Learning Action - to identify problems and solutions to their local health problems and concerns. This technique is pioneered and championed by the charity.
