Mintamir, a Women's Health Group Leader from the Malga District, Ethiopia, talks about how attitudes are changing thanks to the women’s community health groups. See how in our short video.
Mintamir says that before the programme in Dachito village began, attending health centres for health issues in pregnancy or labour was considered shameful. This meant that more lives were at risk, due to delaying important treatments, or getting urgent care during labour.
Now, she says, women are visiting their local facilities, looking for delivery services - less women are giving birth at home, without a trained health worker.
