Thanks to Women and Children First's wonderful supporters, the charity has helped over 600 community groups in the last year.
These groups have brought together almost 40,000 women and men. Together, they have identified and developed solutions to address their health challenges.
Your donations have enabled the charity to provide training for 700 health workers.
The charity has also deployed 200 adolescent champions, with teenagers able to talk about problems that impact them.
Some of the health problems addressed include:
Improving maternal and newborn health
Family planning
HIV prevention during pregnancy, delivery and after birth
As a result, the charity is seeing considerable improvements in the health and wellbeing of women, children and young people.
Hundreds of lives have been saved.
Key achievements in supporting projects in Ethiopia, Malawi, Uganda and Tanzania include:
A 50% increase in use of contraception in the Salima District, Malawi and 17% in the Goro Woreda, Ethiopia
Large increases in uptake of antenatal care in the important first trimester: 20% in Malawi, 10% in the Oyam District, Uganda
10% increase in uptake of HIV testing in Malawi
9% and 6% increases in delivery with a skilled birth attendant, such as a midwife, in Ethiopia and Uganda
Women and Children First's team is continuing to work in poor, rural communities in Africa and Asia.
Women, children and young people are being disproportionately affected by the coronavirus.
Even when escaping infection, they will face immense difficulties accessing critical health services.
There's greater risk of gender-based violence and higher rates of teenage pregnancy.
Women, children and young people’s struggle to survive and thrive has got harder.
Your support will be vital. Your help enables us to develop new direct responses to the pandemic.
It will also help us continue our work, to ensure that women, children and young people do not get left behind.
Together, with your help, we can continue our work. We can support some of the world’s poorest communities and ensure people can survive and thrive.
Thank you.
